About me:
- My name is
Marcin Owsiany. I was born on 01.08.1980.
- Currently I live with
my wife and sons in Bolechowice nearby Krakow, but I come from
Bielsko-Biala — a beautiful Polish town at the base of Beskidy
mountains.
- I work (remotely) for D2iQ
as a software engineer.
- In 2005 I
graduated with a Master of Science in Management and Marketing after graduating
from the Faculty of
Management, at the AGH
University of Science and Technology (formerly known as University of
Mining and Metallurgy) in Krakow.
- In 2004 I graduated with a
Master of Science in Computer Science from the Department of Computer Science
at the Faculty of
Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Electronics of the
AGH University of Science and
Technology in Krakow.
- I
believe in Free
Software, and since 2001 I'm a member of the Debian
Project (and a Debian user since 1997).
- I am also a yachtsman
(rank: inland skipper).
- I enjoy watching a good film, my favourite director is David Lynch. I
am also a crazy fan of a famous Polish comedy of absurd — "Rejs".
- I
am also an admirer of late Stanislaw Lem
— one of the greatest Polish (and not only) writers and
philosophers.
- I am an alumnus of the
Fourth High School in Bielsko-Biala, a
class with English as the language of tutition.
- Actually I was learning English for quite a long
time, so I did some translation of programs and documents about GNU/Linux, such
as the Debian project website, the
installation system and its documentation for the Debian distribution released in
2000. I was also a member of the Polish GNOME translation project,
GNOME PL. I am still the maintainer of potool which is a tool that was created by
the project leader.
- porridge is my
nickname. Hint: my surname is an adjective from "oat".

As for music, I like good old rock from 60s and 70s, but I also listen to a
lot of different things. Here is a dozen or so of my favourite performers, in a
somewhat random order:
Deep Purple, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Procol Harum, Genesis, U2, Pink Floyd,
Clannad, Mike Oldfield, Alan Stivell, Bob Marley, Paprika Korps, Creed, Depeche
Mode, Dire Straits, Dlhe Diely, Dzem, Queen, Electric Light
Orchestra, Eric Clapton, Kazik, Lenny Kravitz, Massive Attack, Metallica,
Portishead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Roxette...
I also like classical music — Georg Friedrich Händel is my
favourite composer.
